We seek solace despite winter’s chill
When harmony and joy stand still
Relative, always, to the plights of others
Alone with the warmth under flannel covers.
Emerging briefly in a somber trance
Unable in front of mirror to dance
No delight even found in favorite songs
Love’s absence from the soul prolonged.
Then heartfelt words from a clever friend
Enrapture and remind we may soar again
Like violas through snow our passions persist
Her lesson? Grief and joy can coexist.
